Volume Post

This is a Cylinder problem.

Pi.r.r.h
πx5x5=79cm^3
79x23=
V
1,817=
V

This is my
triangular prism problem.

a) Yes, he has enough, he only needs 16 triangles
b) 5.6x6.8/2x1.18= 22.46^2

Term 2 Reflection

This past term I learned about percents, surface area, and volume. I honestly think i did better on finding volume because i understood it more quickly and better. I also think i did better in finding volume because i remembered mostly everything about it more then i remember stuff in surface area and percents. I think i struggled more in surface compared to percents because it took me a while to get it and i got a little confused. I can do better in the next term by asking more questions about something if i don't get it right away since sometimes I can just be silent about it and working more harder. In this term i learned a lot of things like finding the surface area and volume of a cylinder, triangular prism , and rectangular prism.

Ryan's Great Big Book Of Integers

Chapter 1 Grade 7 Integer review
Integers can be represented with
-number lines
- integer chips
red = positive
blue = negative
red and blue = zero pair When something isn't there use a zero pair.
example -6+6=0, -8+8=0, -1256+1256=0
(+4)+(-4)=0
standard form 4-4=0

Chapter 2 Multiplying integers
1. (+3)x(+2)
3 groups of positive 2
standard form (3) (2)
2.(+2)x(-3)
2 groups of negative 3
standard form (+2) (-3)
3. (-2)x(+3)
removing 2 groups of 3
standard form (-2) (+3)
4. (-2)x(-3)
removing 2 groups of positive 3
standard form (-2) (-3)
Sign Rule
even = when you have an even number of negative factors the product is positive.
odd = when you have an odd number of negative factors the product is negative.

Chapter 3 Dividing Integers
Partitive division is how many groups of a number are in a given value.
Quotative Division is sharing a certain number between a given value.
Chapter 4 Operations with Integers
(+5) x (-3) + (-6) ÷ (+3)=
(-15) +(-6) ÷ (+3)=
(-15) + (-2) = -7

Final Percent Post

1. Percent - means out of 100 and it can be shown as decimals and fractions.
For example 80% can be 0.8 and 8/10.
Representing Percents;
You can represent a percent by using a grid.
For example 20% can be shown like this.
Percents can also be shown as decimals and percents. For example 50% can be 0.5 or 1/2.

Percent of a Number
You can use mental math strategies like halving, doubling, and dividing by 10 to find a percent of a number. You can also write the percent as a decimal then multiply it by the number.
For example,
12 1/2 % of 50 = 0.125 x 50 12 1/2% = 12.5%
= 6.25 = 0.125

Combining Percent
You can combine Percents to solve a problem.
For example if your buying a bike for $100 and the tax is 5% PST and 7% GST = 12%.
You can find the answer buy finding 1% of $100 then multiply by 12 to find how much the tax would be with the original price. So 100 divided by 100 = 1 then multiply by 12 and you will find the tax which is $12. All together you are paying $112 for the bike.

2. Will upload later on having some problems with it.
3. I didn't have a percent scribe post.
4. A link to a website about percents.

Ryan's Scribe Post

This scribe post is about 3 questions on pages 142 and 143.

7. Two hundred tickets are being sold for a school draw.
a) What is your chance of winning with one ticket? Express your answer as a percent.
Your chance of winning with one ticket would be 0.5% because lets say 200 tickets is 100 tickets then your chance of winning with one ticket would be 1%.

b) How many tickets would you need to purchase to have a 2.5% chance of winning?
You would but 5 tickets because if 1 ticket is 0.5% then if you buy 4 more it would equal 2.5%

13. Suppose a real estate agent receives 5% commission on the fi rst $200 000 of a house’s selling price, and 6% on the remaining amount.
a) What does commission mean?
Commission means a part of the sale price that the real estate agent would earn.

b) If a house sells for $345 000, how much commission does the real estate agent make on the sale of the house?
The agent would make $18 700 on the house.

16. Josephine scored 12 baskets out of 30 shots in her first basketball game this year. Her scoring average was then 40%. The next game, she made ten shots and raised her scoring average for both games to 50%. How many of the ten shots in the second game were baskets?
Josephine made 8 baskets out of the 10 shots on the second game.

My act of kindness was to shovel snow off peoples front yard and back yard.

Why did you choose this activity?
I chose this activity because sometimes some people don't have time to shovel snow off their yard.

What did you do?
I shoveled snow off peoples yard.

Who did you help?
I help anyone around my street who hasn't shovel snow off their yard yet.

When did you do you act of kindness?
I did my act of kindness on Dec.19 2010.

Part 3
How did your act of kindness go?
My act of kindness went well.

What Happened?
I was shoveling snow off peoples yard.

How did you feel?
I felt good because i was doing something to help people.

How did the person or people react?
The people reacted glad how I went to them and asked if I wanted to shovel snow off their yard for them.

Did you ask the person or people to "Pay It Forward"?
Yes I did.

How did they react to your request?
Some people acted a little clueless until i explained what I was trying to say.

Part 4
Why is the idea of "Pay it Forward" important?
The idea of Pay it Forward is important because being kind and helping people are nice things and being nice shows that we care.

Ryan's Math Profile

Hi my name is Ryan Mercado. I am a math student in grade 8. If someone asked me do you like math? I would say yes becauase math is important in life. I say this because when you get older and you buy things by yourself you need to know how much money you need to pay for something. The best thing i did last year was blogging because it was fun and you can help people when they need it. Also i think of it as test to see if I pay attention in class.

In grade 7 my favorite unit was fractions because i already knew some things about it. I did well in this unit becauase I knew what I was doing for the entire unit and if i had to I would explain how i got an answer. The unit i didnt do well in last year was the co-ordinate grid. I knew the basic things that you had to do but i got confused about the three transformations except for rotation. This year i must pay attention in class so I know what do in a unit.

This year in grade 8 i will try to help my classmates with things they dont get so they can get it and do the rest of the work with no help. I also wanna make more blogs because it will test me if I payed attention in class or not. This year I would like to learn more about algebra because im weak at it so I wanna try to improve on it so I dont have to always ask what do we do or i dont
get it.

Last year I did a blog about Why We Estimate because I wanted to help people who didnt get the unit. Blogging helped me get better because when i dont get something I can look at the blog and try to find out what i dont get. When were on computers in math class I hope to do more blogs and make sure I get homework done on time.

Ryan's Sesame Street Video Post

Group members: Ryan M, Christian T, Kris G .

Part One
Two/Three term ratios- Compares two/three quantities measured in the same unit.

Example: 5 oranges, 2 grapes. 5:2
5 oranges
, 2 grapes, to all. 5:2:7

Rates- Compares 2 quantities measured in different units.
Example: 10g= 1.50$/10g

Proportional Reasoning- A relationship that says 2 ratios and 2 rates are equal.

$/g 5$/5g= 10$/10g
x2

Part Two

My group and I did a remake of the Sesame Street Video called The Scale Salesman
It's about left trying to sell Ernie a scale.

Part Three
Want to buy a proportional reasoning?
