Jomer's Great Big Book Of Integers

Chapter 1 Grade 7 Integer Review

Questions:
-3 - (-7)= +4
-3 -7= -10
3 -7= 4
3 +7= 10
-3 +7= 4

Chapter 2 Multiplying Integers

(+2) x (+3)=

(+2) x (-3)=

(-2) x (+3)=

(-2) x (-3)=

Sign Rule (Negative signs)
Even: When you have an even number of negative factors the product is positive.
Odd: When you have an odd number of negative factors the product is negative .

Chapter 3 Dividing Integers

Partitive Division is how many groups of a number are in a given value.

Quotative Division is sharing a certain number between a given value.
Sign Rule

In a division question with an even amount or no (-) signs the quotient will be positive.
In a division question with an odd number of (-) signs the quotient will be negative.
Order of Operations with Integers
[(+5)x(-3)]+(-6)/(+3)=-7
(-15)+(-6)/(+3)=-7
(-21)/(+3)=-7

Final Percent Post

1) This chapter was about decimals, fractions, and percents. We learned how to represent percents in many ways. Such as hundred grids, fractions, and even decimals. After that, it got harder and we learned how to add taxes. Like GST and PST.

What is a percent?
Percent is a number out of 100. It is also known as hundredths.

Representing Percents.

You can represent percents by showing it on hundred grids.

Ex:

Fractions, Decimals and Percents

Percents can be written as fractions and as decimals.

Ex:

50% = 50/100 = 0.5

Combining Percent

Percents can be combined by adding to solve problems.

eg. 3 DVD's for 19.99 each. Find the total cost of the DVD's including 5% GST and 6% PST.

Jomer's Pay It Forward

Part 1:

Paying it forward is when you show an act of kindness to a stranger, and knowing to have nothing in return. The movie, " Pay it forward" was about a grade seven er boy named Trevor, His father would beat his mom up, which made things worst. His mom was an alcoholic. Trevor's Social Studies teacher Mr. Simonet was fully burnt from his step dad. Mr. Simonet and Trevor's mom had a thing. The teacher told the class to pay it forward. So, Trevor did. These kids would always bully Trevor's classmate, but he didn't really do anything. Until one time, Trevor stood up. Sadly The bullies had a knife. Stabbed Trevor in the stomach. He died at the age of 12.

Part 2:

My act of kindness was buying holiday cards, candy canes, and gloves. Then handing them out to anyone on Osborne. We chose this activity because we knew that there were a lot of homeless people around. Also we knew it was a busy street. When we went to Osborne. We did our act of kindness on Saturday, December 18, 2010.

Part 3:
Our act of kindness was poor. We asked over 30 people. We got the same answers. "NO!!"The first time the person said no, I felt so embarrassed and scared. But when it became the 10th person, I was frustrated. All the others that said no, had attitude with it. When we would hand the cards and candy canes out, we said " Happy holidays, Pay it forward." Some people even ignored our requested. And kept walking.

Part 4:
The idea of " Paying it forward" is so important because, It shows that not everyone are snobs. Also, it can change peoples lives. Knowing that people like us, can walk down Osborne, by ourselves in the cold weather and hand out candy canes. Even though we had a simple idea, that one person who accepted our offer, would probably pay it forward. When he tells people to pay it forward, it'll hopefully go on, and on for years to come.
I think my act of kindness did make a difference. It can show that, not only adults care about others, but children can too. Also, for all those people who declined our wonderful offer, hopefully it changes their perspective about young strangers.

Textbook Work

Textbook
I had to do numbers
5, 8, 11, and 14

5)

B)
The area of the square attached to the hypotenuse is 100

C)
The length of the hypotenuse is 10

14)
c²-b²=a²
5²-3²
25-9=a²
16m²=a²
√16m²= √a²
4m=a
**The √ are suppose to be square root signs.**
If you guys still don't understand what a hypotenuse is, maybe this video might help.

Jomer's Math Profile

Hi, I'm Jomer. I'm a math student in grade eight! When people ask me if I like math, I hesitate to answer. That's because some days I love math, and other days.. I'm not a big fan of it. When I do good on a test, that's when I love math. When my class does work and I don't understand it that's when I don't like math. I remember in grade seven, every Thursday's our math class would have a test. One day it was about fractions, and I was excited because I understood fractions and I knew I was going to get a good mark on the test. The last question made us do a lot of work! I got the answer and I remembered what the teacher said, "You should always simplify a fraction." When we corrected the test, about five students and I were the only people that did simplify. I felt so proud because I'm not the smartest student in math and I got the answer right!
In grade seven I really liked the unit on fractions. I did well on fractions because i actually decided to study. I studied because fractions seemed interesting and easy. The unit that made me struggle was angles. I think it was hard for me because I didn't understand it and I didn't bother asking for help. This year when I'm struggling with a unit, I promise I'll ask for help so I could improve my work.
I'm in grade eight now. I know that studying and doing my homework will not only make me a better student. But it will also make me successfully pass grade eight! I'm looking forward to learn a lot of things this year. One thing I'm really looking forward to is Algebra. I learned Algebra last year, but I didn't understand it. This year hopefully I'll understand it more.
Last year, I was a very good blogger. All my post had beautiful pictures and very good information. One of my post was about order of operations. I was really proud of my post because a girl in an other class even took the picture I made! That blog had all the things it needed. Pictures, and a Video.. But I didn't have a link. Blogging made me become a better student because it shows I can do work on paper and on the computer. Some students can only do work on paper, or on the computer. But I can do both! This year I would like to learn how to use a Mac, and making a math movie. This year will be a very interesting year!
