Term 2 Reflection

Listen!
Please read along! Thank you!
Term 2 Reflection

In term 2 I did really good in volume because I really understood what to do and how to do it. In this term I kind of struggled in surface area because I didn’t really understood the formula or how to solve the questions. In term 3 I will focus more then term 2 and really try to ask for help if i didn’t understand anything. In percent I had learn how to find how many percent of things that is contained in something. For example we learned how to find how many percent of apple juice is in the carton after 10 people had a glass of it. In surface area I learned how to find areas of different kinds of shapes. Finally in volume I learned how to find how much the whole shape is. The differences between surface area and volume is in surface area you are finding how many units there are outside and in volume you are finding how many units there are inside.

Jennily's Great Big Book Of Integers

Chapter 1
Integers
- Number lines
- Integer chips
- Zero pairs

= -1

= +1

These are negative and positive numbers.

= Zero Pairs

This is a rhyme that can help you remember zero pairs. " When subtracting something that isn't there use a zero pair".

Integers in grade 7
have 4 owe 4
(+4) + ( - 4) = 0

Brackets in grade 7 are training wheels.
Standard Form
+4-4
4-4 <--- pure standard form
6-4 = 2

The ones that are in the box are the ones that are removed so it means there are +2 piece of chips left.

Chapter 2 - "Multiplying Integers"
(+2) x (+3) =
or
2 groups of (+3)

(+2) x (-3)= or 2 groups of (-3)

(-2) x (+3)= -6 <----- remove 2 groups of (+3) for this you would have to use zero pairs.

(-2)x(-3) = +6 <---- Remove 2 groups of (-3)

Sign Rule ( negative signs)
Even= When you have an even number of NEGATIVE factors the product is POSITIVE.
Odd = When you have an odd number of NEGATIVE factors the product is NEGATIVE.

Chapter 3 " Dividing Integers"
Division
2 types of division
6/3= 2
How many groups of (+3) are in 6?
Partative division or making parts.
<----------------------->
0 -------> ---------> 6

6/3 = 2
Share 6 with 3 groups
+1 +1 +1
+1 +1 +1
Quotative division or sharing your total with groups.
(-6)/(-3)=2
How many groups of (-3) are in -6?
Only Partative will work for this.

If you have no negative or an even number of negative signs in a division question the quotient is positive.

When you have and odd number of (-) signs in a division question the quotient is negative.

Chapter 4 - Order of operations with integers

(+6) x (-2) + (-6) ÷ (+2)= ?

1) You would use the multiplication and division first
2)Then p
ut the square brackets around (+6) x (-2) ex. [(+6) x (-2)]
3)After p
ut square brackets around (-6) ÷ (+2) ex. [(-6) ÷ (+2)]
4)Finally solve (-12)+(-3) = + 15

Math Textbook Pg 250-253 #2,5,8,10

Jennily's Volume Post # 2,5,8,10

No it doesn't matter.
For example look at these two rectangular prism.

V= area of base x height
V= 50cm x 15cm
V= 750cm

V= area of base x height
V= 75cm x 10cm
V=750cm
You see they are both the same.

LxWxH
4cm x 3cm = 12cm
12cm² x 5cm = 60cm³

LxWxH
5cm x 3cm = 15cm
15cm² x 4 = 60cm³

LxWxH
20cm x 6cm = 120cm
120cm² x 8cm = 960cm

LxWxH
8cm x 6cm = 48cm
48cm² x 20 = 960cm³

So, mainly 1cm cube would look like this:
So if you were to make a base of fifteen cm cube it would look something like this:

The top of this layer should be 15cm² so we would use that as our base.

Since the prism is made up of 5 layers of the 15 cm cubes then i will be using that as my height.
V= area of base x height
V= 15cm² x 5cm
V=75cm³

Even if the wording is different it's basically just asking for the volume.

V= area of base x height
V= 1250cm² x 100cm
V= 125 000cm³

Cylinder Volume and Volume Problems
7.3

A)
V= π x r x r x h
V= (3.14 x 5 x 5) x 23
78.5cm ^2 x 23
V= 1805.5cm^3

B)
V= π x r x r x h
V= (3.14 x 14 x 14) x 12
615.44cm^2 x 12
V= 7385.28cm^3

C)
V= π x r x r x h
V= (3.14 x 0.5 x 0.5) x 1.5
0.785m^2 x 1.5
V= 1.1775m^3

7.4

A) Yes, He has enough small prism. If he uses 4 for the base and 4 for the height he will have enough.
B)
b x h / 2 x h
5.6 x 6.8 / 2 = 19.04m ^2
19.04m^2 x 1.18 = 22.4672m^ 3

Final Percent Post

A percent is a fraction out of one hundred. It can be represented by a hundred grid and written as a fractions or decimals. Percents can be used to find taxes or discounts of money.

This chapter was about percents and how to use them in real life to solve many of the problems in real life.

You can represent percents using a hundred grid. - 4.1

1 grid = 100%.
This grid represents half which is 50%.

Percents can be written in 2 different ways. - 4.2
1st way is decimals.
2nd way is a fractions.
50%= 1/2, 0.5

To calculate the percent of a number, you have to write the percent as a decimal and then multiply it by the number - 4.3
50% = 100% 0.5 x 100
50% of 100 = 50.

To calculate the increase in a number - 4.4

You can combined the percent amount to its original number-

12% of 100 = 0.12 x 100 = 12

100+12=112

  • You can multiply the original number by one percent greater than 100-
112% of 100 = 1.12 x100

112% of 100 = 112.

Now here is my percent video.

Jennily's Pay it Forward

Group Members: Katerina Ferreira.

Paying it Forward is when you do something nice to someone, then that person passes on the cheer. Paying it forward is something that everyone in the world should do. Hopefully the whole wide world will be doing this and we would be living in cheer.
My pay it forward was gong to the store and buying toys for the Christmas holidays! Me and Katerina choose this because we thought that every kid in the world should have Christmas!
I have done my act of kindness and hope to do it some more. I did this on Sunday, December 12,2012.

When me and Katerina bought the toys we each payed half.
When we started this project it was all going down hill but at the end we were on top. Katerina and I went to the children hospital at first but they were closed so we couldn't donate the toys which was really sad. We didn't know where to go so we went to many place but we couldn't donate toys to anywhere, but after we had gone to the Christmas cheer board. The the man gave me and Katerina this note that said " It's people like you who help fill the sack, to bring Christmas Cheer to those who lack.. You're now officially a Santa's Elf! You've put others first, before yourself. Please accept this sincere "Thanks"For donations given.... and showing that you care, 'Cause it's only with your help that we can " LOVE and SHARE " and " Christmas should happen for EVERYONE ". I felt good that I have helped someone in need because everyone in the whole wide world should be able to have Christmas holiday. Yes, I did ask them to pay it forward. There reaction was " what is pay it forward?"I had told them what pay it forward is and they were amazed by what this school's assignment was, I told them that its not a assignment, it is something that everyone in the world should do.

I think paying it forward is amazing because not everyone is like me and you. Paying it forward is important because people in the world don't have a family or food or even a place to live, So I am grateful for what I can do to help someone in the world. I hope the children that gets the toy is happy. Have a Happy Holiday Everyone! And always remember to PAY IT FORWARD!!

Sorry I don't have a picture because I had to leave early before taking a picture with the man.

Jennily's Pythagoras Scribe Post

Question 1,6,13,20

1.) Describe using words and symbols the relationship among the areas of the three squares shown.

The relationship is the S2 + V2 = T2 is the same as A2 + B2 = C2.

6.) Write an addition statement using the areas of these three squares.
The addition statement That was shown was 25 + 144 = 169

B) What is the length side of each square?
25 = 5
144 = 12
169 = 13

C) Describe using words and symbols, the relationship between the side length of each square.
The addition of the two smaller squares are equal to the largest square.

13.) A small triangular flower bed has a square steeping stone on each side, is the flower bed the shape of a right triangle ? Explain.
No it isn't because the two smaller square isn't equal to the largest square. 4800+4800=9600

20.) A right triangle has sides of 13 cm, 4 cm, and 5 cm. Attached to each side is a semi circle instead of a square. Describe the relationship between the areas and the semi circles.
The area of the two smaller semi circle is equal to the area of the square by the hypotenuse.

There is my post hope you like it and if I made any mistake please tell me.
I found a Pythagoras trivia game here is the site hope you have fun.

Jennily's Math Profile

Hi, My name is Jennily Luu. I'm a grade 8 math student. I someone had walked up to me asking me "Do you like math?" I would say yes because math is part of my life and when i was younger I have done pretty well in mat hbut my parents didn't think it was good enough so i used to have a math touter so now i'm actually enjoy doing math not only that I learn it and that other people think its no use of learning it, it's actually a if part of life!

The unit that i really injoy and thouht was easy was fractions because it was easy to understand I the work that i did about fraction was realy simple because I just needed to be tought only once or more if i didn't get and after that all of it would be easy. The unit that i didn't do really good in was probably the translation but only the rotation one because it was really confusing for me and I would get frustrated because i didn't know how it would be like. My goal for this year is to write more clear and write in my note book so i won't lose anything so when exam comes I would know what to study and it would be clear.

This year in grade 8, I will be more succusesfull by staying on task more and I would complete all my work and hnd it on time and coment on all of the blogs or make more blogs. This year would like to learn how to do rotation so it won't be difficult for me to do. I also want to get more better in algebra cause i want to be more clear so when i go to high school I won't have to have a difficult time with ths.

Last year I had only did one blog and it wasn't really that important it was mostly about boston and lakers and what we had to do to get more marks. When we get to use the computar in the math room i would want to create more post and comment more often on other peoples post.
