How to Solve One Step Equations
Solving By Inspection

Addition
2+n=4

First we isolate the variable.
2+(-2)+n= 4-2
Now you must balance the equation by adding the (-2) after 4.
n=2
After you solve the variable now you must verify your answer.

2+n=4
2+(2)=4
4=4
Since 4=4, we know that we got the correct answer.
Subtracting
It's like the same thing like addition.
n-4 =2
We isolate the variable.
n-4+4=2+4
Then you balance.

n=6
Now you verify.

n-4=2
6-4=2
2=2
Multiplication
2n=4
To isolate the variable you cancel the constant by dividing.

2/2n=4/2
Balance.

n=2
Verify.

2n=4
2(2)=4
4=4
Division
n/4=2

Isolate the variable.
n(4)*/4=2*4

Balance.
n=8
Verify.

n/4=2
8/4=2
2=2

How to Solve Two Step Algebra Equations
Solving by Inspection

Multiplication
2x+1=5
First, we cancel the constant with opposites
2x+1-1=5-1
2x=4
Now, we must simplify the variable to 2x
2x/2=4/2
x=2
Now we must verify our answer.
2x+1=5
2(2)+1=5
(4)+1=5
5=5

Division
x/2+2=5
x/2=5-2

(2)x/2=3(2)
x=6

Verify
x/2+2=5

(6)/2+2=5
3+2=5
5=5

Term 2 Reflection

In term 2, I think I did well on the test and quizzes throughout the term. In this term I learned about percents, surface area, and volume. In percent, I learned how to add taxes like, PST and GST to prices (numbers). In surface area I learned how to find the area of a shape like triangles, rectangles, and squares by using certain formulas such as lxw, and bxh/2. For volume I learned the formula for finding the volume which is lxwxh. In term 2 i struggled in percents because last year I missed the classes when they were going over percents. Next term I will try to participate in class, and do my blog work correctly. The difference between volume and surface area is the volume is volume is measuring how much capacity a shape has and surface area is the measurement of the exterior.

Christian T's Great Big Book of Integers

Chapter 1
-6-(-4) =-2

-10 +6 = -4

6-7+2 =1

14- (-3) =4

-3 - (-7)=4

-3 -7= -10

3 -7= -4

3+7=10

-3 +7=4

Chapter 2
Multiplying Integers
Examples:
(+3)x(+2)=3 groups of 2
repeated addition
2+2+2= +6
two groups of +3
(2)x(+3)=

Questions
(+2)x(+3)= +6
2 groups of (+3)

(+2)x(-3)= -6
2 groups of (-3)

(-2)x(+3)= -6
remove 2 groups of (+3)

(-2)x(-3)= +6
remove 2 groups of (-3

Sign Rules

Even- when you have an even number of negative factors the product is positive.

Odd- when you have an odd number of negative factors the product is negative.

Chapter 3
Dividing Integers

Partitive Division is when you use groups of to get to your quotient.

6/2=3

(-6)/(-2)=+3

Quotative Division is when you use sharing to get to your quotient.
(-6)/2=-3

Multiplicative Inverse is when you use multiplication to figure out your quotient.
6/(-2)=
(-2)x(-3)=6
(-3)x(-2)=6
Means 6/(-2)=(-3)

Sign Rules
In a division question with an even amount or no negative signs the quotient will be positive.

e.g 6/2=3
(-6)/(-2)=3

In a division question with an odd number of negative signs the quotient will be negative.
e.g (-6)/2=(-3)
6/(-2)=(-3)

Chapter 4
Order of Operations with Integers

(+5) x (-3) + (-6)/(+3)=
Since there are no square brackets or exponents we should start with division and multiplication going from left to right.

[(+5) x (-3)] + [(-6)/(+3)]=
(-15)+(-2)=
After you're done with division and multiplication you should do addition
(-15)+(-2)=(-17)

Final Percent Post

1. Percent means a number out of a hundred. It can be represented as a fraction and decimal.
Ex. 50%, 0.5, 50/100f
Representing Percents
-percents can be represented in a hundred grid
2
0%

Fractions, Decimals, Percents
Percents can be showed as fractions and decimals.
Ex. 50%=1/2 0.5=50%

Percent of a Number
You can use mental math strategies like doubling, halving, dividing by 10 to find the percent of number. Ex.
12 1/2 % of 50 = 0.125 x 50 12 1/2% = 12.5% = 6.25 = 0.125

Combining Percent
.You can combine the percents by adding them together to help you solve a problem.
..Ex. 5%+7%=12%
To find the increase in number you can add the combined percent to the original number.
Ex. 12% of 100 0.12 x 100 = 12 12+100=112

2.
At the end it's suppose to be 48$.

Christian T's Pay it Forward

Part 1
An 11 year old boy named Trevor has a troubled family, an alcoholic mother named Arlene, and his dad left them. At Trevor's school he has a new social studies teacher named Mr.Simonet. Mr.Simonet gives Trevor's class an assignment to think of a simple way to make the world a safer place. Trevor thinks of pay it forward, he does a favor for 3 people and ask them to do the same to other people. Trevor starts by helping a junkie named Jerry, then he tries to get Arlene and Mr.Simonet dating, and lastly he saves his classmate from bullies. One night a journalist that was stuck with no car, he got a car from a stranger asking him to do a favor for someone else, the journalist was surprised.

Part 2

For my act of kindness, i donated my old clothes to The Salvation Army Thrift Store. I chose this activity because I had a lot of clothes laying around, so i might as well donate them to people who needs them. I helped the people who needs stuff to wear.I donated my old clothes to The Salvation Army. I did my act of kindess today.

Part 3
My act of kindness went well. On Saturday December 20, 2010 my dad and I went to that Salvation Army Thrift Store and explained what we were going to do. The person told us to drop the clothes in the gray bin.I felt happy because I know that I'm helping people I didn't say pay it forward to the person because she was busy, I think that they would've appreciated me donating old clothes.

Part 4
Pay it forward is important because you're helping people, and trying to make the world a nicer place. I think my act of kindness will make a difference in peoples lives.

Christian Ty's Math Profile

Hi, my name is Christian Ty. I am a math student in grade 8. If someone asked me "Do you like math?" I would say yes, because when i was young my dad helped me with my math, so i felt confident. The best thing I did in math class was blogging because it was fun and it was a chance to help your classmates by commenting.

In grade 7, my favorite unit was fractions because it was really easy to understand. I did well in this unit because I started to write my notes neater. The unit i didn't do well in was the co-ordinate grid. It got me confused and it was the first unit after summer break. It got me confused when we had to do the 3 transformations. This year to improve I will try to listen better and write cleaner notes.

This year in grade 8, i will help my classmates with their math problems so they could improve and myself, also I will try to make more blogs and comment more often to help people that missed math class. This year I would like to learn more about integers and algebra because those were my weakest subjects and I want to improve so i could be like my dad.

Last year i did blog, my post was about Subtracting with Unlike Denominators because some of our classmates were confused so I had a chance to help them. Blogging helped me get better because I could always look back on what I learned in case I forgot. When we're on the computer in math class i hope to do more blogs and complete assignments.
