Kris' Algebra post

Solving one step equations

solve by inspection

15+b=23

Isolate the variable

15+(-15)b=23-15

We do 23-15 and that will give you B

n=8

Now varify your answer

15+b=23

15+8=23

23=23

^ MAKE SURE YOU DO THIS!

solving with algebra tiles.

1 Step equations

3) 15+b=23

15+8=23

23=23

15) V/8=2

V/8x8=2x8

V=16

V/8=2

16/8=2

2=2

2 Step equation

3) 9x-7=-7

9x-7+7=-7+7

9x=0

9x/9=0/9=0

0=0

9x-7=-7

9(0)-7=-7

-7=-7

Kristopher's Term 2 Reflection

Term 2 Reflection

In term 2, I think I did good on most of the tests but not all. I think I did good on theses tests because I remembered what I needed to do to calculate the answers. I really liked calculating the volume of 3D shapes because I like working with the formulas and it was interesting. The rectangular prism formula is LxWxH and is the easiest to remember.

In term 2, I think I struggled with blogging the most because I didn't comment as much as I should of and the quality of my blogs was not that great. Now I know I should do my blogs as soon as possible after school and not wait until after soccer or other sports because I get tired and want to go to sleep.

In term 2, we also learned ho wto solve percents by converting them to decimals and fractions, how to calculate taxes such as GST an PST, find the are of different 3D objects such as cylinders, rectangualr prisms and triangualr prisms we also we also learned how to calculate the measurements of a circle such as the circumfrance, radius and diameter.

In term 3 I will try to get 100% on the tests, complete my bog and comment on the other blogs. I will make sure that I stop goofing off and pay more attention so I can do better on the tests.

Kristopher's Great book of intergers

CHAPTER 1

1) -6-(-4)= -2
2) -10+6= -4
3) 6-7= -1
4) 6-7+2= 1
5) 14-(-3)= 17
6) -3-(-7)= 4

7) -3-7= -10

8) 3-7=4

9) 3+7= 10

10) -3+7= 4

CHAPTER 2

(+2)x(+3)=(+6) 2 groups of (3), +++ +++=(+6)

(+2)x(-3)=(-6) 2 groups of (-3), --- ---=(-6)

(-2)x(+3)=(-6) remove 2 groups of (3), --- ---=(-6)

(-2)x(-3)=(+6) remove 2 groups of (-3), +++ +++=(+6)

CHAPTER 3

What is Partitive Division? Partitive Division is where you know the total number of groups.

6/2= 3

-6/(-2)=3

Multiplicative inverse is when you use a multiplication to figure out your quotient.
6/(-2)=
(-2)x(-3)=6
(-3)x(-2)=6
that means 6/(-2)=(3)
SIGN RULES
In a division question with an even amount or no negative signs the quotient will be positive.
EX: 6/2=3 or -6/(-2)=3

In a divition question with an odd number of negitive sign the quotient will be negative.
EX: -6/2=(-3) or 6/(-2)=(-3)

CHAPTER 4

Order of Operations with Intergers
[(5)x(-3)]+[(-6)/(3)=
(-15)+[(-6)/(3)]=
(-15)+(-2)=(-17)

Final Percent Post

Percents
In this chapter we did percents, Percents are out of 100. We also learned how to convert percents to decimals and fraction. We can also write it as a one hundred grid to show answer.
Example: 55% - 55/100 and 0.55.

Repercents Percents

You could use a 100 grid to get a anwser.
Example: 35%
Fraction, Decimals, Percents
Percents can be shown as a Decimals and Fractions.
Example: 25% - 25/100 - 0.25

Percents of a number
You can use mental math like halving, dividing by 10 and doubling the number.
Example: 50% of $80 is $40
Combining Percents
if you combine percents by adding to solve a problem
Example: 6% + 8% = 14%

Kris' Pay It Forward

Part 1
The movie Pay It Forward was about a boy named Trevor who had an assignment to try to change the world. He help three people and he tells them to help three other people too. The three people were this guy named Jerry the teacher Mr Simonet and this guy that gets bullied, to help Mr Simonet, he put his mom on a date with him. Oh yeah his life is very hard because his dad left and his mom is a alcoholic.

Part 2
On December 18 2010, Brandon and I went to Isaac brook community centre to volunteer in the kitchen. In the kitchen we were giving hotdogs away, juice boxes and we helped Santa hand out candy canes too. We gave the candy canes to little kids like around 5-10 years old. Some kids were so hyper when they saw Santa. They where like jumping and saying "It's Santa". When Santa was going to leave my mom said we should take a picture with him, so we did. It was so much fun to be there. I felt good because I was helping people that i did not know and I didn't ask for any thing in return. It felt awesome when they said "thank you for helping us". I think they felt happy because at the community there wasn't a lot of volunteers and when Brandon and I went there they where happy. They just needed Brandon and I to give hot dogs and candy canes to people. No I didn't say "pay it forward" to the people there. I didn't say "pay it forward" to people because I had to give it to a person so the person can give it to the person who asked for it.
Part 3
I think it went okay because once i got there i was a little bit shy but then after a while I got use to it. It went how i predicted it to.Brandon and I was giving hot dogs and candy canes to little kids fo our Pay it forward project. I felt good because I did something good for another person and didn't ask for any thing in return. The people where happy when Brandon and i said "can we help you guys with anything, Its for a school project called Pay it foward". They said yes because they didn't have a lot of people and some people that the project was a great idea. No I didn't because we where giving the hotdogs to a person so they can give it to the person wo asked for it.
Part 4
I think its important because you wanna be nice and that's a good way to show it. You are doing this so you can make other peoples life easier and not so hard to live in. I think it did because Brandon and I did it for free and we asked nothing in return and they had a big smle on there face.

Using the Pythagorean Relationship, Homework Book

1. RED is the answer
The Pythagorean relationship can be used to determine the Length of the Hypotenuse of a right triangle when the lengths of the two Legs are known.

3. Question - Determine the length of each hypotenuse. Show your work.
a)
a squared + b squared = c squared
40cm squared + 9cm squared = c squared
(40x40) + (9x9) = c squared
1600cm + 81cm = c squared
The square root of 1681cm = c squared
41 cm squared = c squared

b)
a squared + b squared = c squared
12m squared + 35m squared = c squared
(12x12) + (35x35) = c squared
144m squared + 1225m squared = c squared
The square root of 1369m squared = c squared
37m squared = c squared

5. Question - Calculate the missing side length for each right triangle, to the nearest tenth of a centimetre. Show your work.

a)
a squared = c squared - b squared
a squared = 6 cm squared - 5 cm squared
a squared = (6x6) - (5x5)
a squared = 36cm squared - 25cm squared
The square root of 11 = a squared
a squared = 3.31cm squared

b)
a squared = b squared - c squared
a squared = 7cm squared - 12cm squared
a squared = (7x7) - (12x12)
a squared = 49cm squared - 144cm squared
The square root of 95 = a squared
a squared = 9.74

7. Question - A triangle is made up of two smaller congruent right triangles.

a)
a squared + b squared = c squared
4m squared + 2m squared = c squared
(4x4) + (2x2) = c squared
16+ 4 = c squared
The square root of 20 = c squared
4.5 = c squared

b)
a squared = c squared - b squared
a squared = 8m squared - 4.5 squared
a squared = 8m squared + 4.5m squared + 4.5m squared
a squared = 17m squared

Show You Know # 2

Question -
a) Identify a whole number with a square root between 8 and 9.
b) How many whole numbers can you find that have a square root between 8 and 9? Show your work.

a) 8 square = ?
8 x 8 = 64

a) 9 square = ?
9 x 9 = 81

So the square root of 72 will have a value between 8 and 9.

b) There are 16 whole numbers that have a square root between 8 and 9.

(8 square = 64)
(9 square = 81)
Between 64 and 81 there are 16 whole numbers

(if you cant see the square root thingy, the top one is 8 and the second one is 9)

Kris' Math Profile

Hi, my name is Kristopher Gonclaves. I'm a grade 8 math student. If someone asked me if I like math I would say, "Yes!" Math is my favorite subject after Phys ed. My favorite thing to do in math is learning about algebra equations and trying to solve them. I really liked grade 2 math because I learned my multiplication tables and memorized them and I learned a trick to skip counting by 9's. It made math in grade 3 much easier.

In grade 7 math the best thing I learned about was the order of operations (BEDMAS). This also made math much easier and interesting and I could do harder work. I also really like the unit on probability because I was good at it. The unit that was hard for me was measuring perimeter and area because it is hard to remember the formulas to do it.

This year I want to make sure that I always stay on task, finish my work and get 90% or higher on all the tests. I will also work hard to finish all the blog posts because last time I didn't always finish them because they were hard sometimes. I look forward to doing harder algebra this year so it is challenging and I can get better at it.

In grade 7 my favorite post was the last one because I was able to use color and pictures and it was my best one. I hope that I am able to use these thing in my blogs this year and each time do better. I also hope my blogs can help other people.
