Angelique's Math Profile

Hello, my name is Angelique Marcial. I'm a math student in grade eight. If someone asked me if I liked math I would say, not really. My answer was not really because I'm not strong with math and I'm not really into numbers and sometimes I get mixed up. The best thing I ever did in math class was doing the blog. I LOVED doing that because it's fun, you can do it yourself, in your own way. I also liked it because you didn't have to do much work just type and look for other things, you can also help you peers with math stuff.

In grade seven I really liked Integers. I found it the best, I found it really easy to do. I found the integer chips easier than number lines. I found number lines really confusing, but integer chips made my work more fun to do and faster. Last year in grade seven, I remember I had LOTS of trouble with rotation and transformation and the others. Then, finding the new coordinates. I didn't really get it, it was because I was in the Philippines at the time when they were talking about it. I didn't get to ask. I will listen more about it in class if we ever get to talk about it and learn about it. So I wouldn't struggle this year I will listen very carefully and write down extra notes that I might need.

Now I am in grade eight, to be a successful math student I will write down extra notes in case it might be in the exam, finish all my homework and be more organized with my work. I will always review what I have learned on that day so I can remember, and do good on a test or quiz. Before any quiz or test though I will study very hard for it so I can get perfect on the test. This year in grade eight I want to learn more about linear equations. I want to because last year in grade seven I found that fun also. I found it fun to solve linear equations than any other math problem.

I was a blogger last year. I had lots of fun blogging and commenting on other peoples blogs. One of my favourite blogs that I made was one about solving equations. This was my favourite because it had everything, color, an image, video and a link. There were also lots of great comments and remember I said earlier that I liked solving equations? See, its true! Blogging made me a better student because thats what helps me review. I ALWAYS go on the internet after school so might as well look at the blog to see what we did today instead of just going to my binder and reading it, like it seems so boring. When I look at the blog it seems more colorful and I can learn more from the video and the link. This year in math class I'm really looking forward to the math movies we are going to make that Mr. Harbeck was talking about! I think I'll have a fun math year! (:

  8. Good job, Angelique. I really liked that you explained everything and told us you your opinions. I looked at your post last year on, "solving equations," but next time I think your should try and only use 2 to 3 different colours for the important words.

  14. Hi Angelique,

I am a learning resource designer at a university in BC - and I have had some correspondence with your teacher, Mr. Harbeck. I really like what you said about color, image and video as alternative ways for you to learn. I think having multiple ways to learn is important because we all have our own preferences (some like to learn through image, others by hearing something and others by doing something). Blogging is a great way to experiment with other forms (video, image, audio) to enhance learning. I really enjoy seeing the great work you and your classmates are doing. Keep experimenting - that's what leads to great learning!
