Surface Area and Volume

r=d/2 v=πr² x h
r=8/2 v=(3.14x4x4) x 10m
r=4m v=50.24m² x 10m
v= 502.4m³
Now, since it is only half of a cylinder, I have to divide by 2
502.4m³/ 2= 251.2m³
The area of the semi-circular trough is 251.2cm³
Here is a question from 7.4 in the textbook :

____
³ )8000 = 20 d/2=r v= πr² x h
20/2=r v= (3.14x10x10) x 20
10cm=r v= 314cm²x 20cm
v= 6280cm³
The volume of the vase is 6280cm³

Surface Area and Volume Post
Calculate the surface area of this cylinder to the nearest tenth of a square centimetre.
Show You Know pg.185
Calculate the surface area of a cylindrical waste bucket without a lid that measures 28 cm high and 18 cm in diameter. Give your answer to the nearest square centimetre.
1. What are the similarities and differences between finding the surface area of a prism and finding the surface area of a cylinder?
3. a) Draw a net for this cylinder. b) Sketch a different net for this cylinder
5. Find the surface area of each object to the nearest tenth of a square unit.
Cylinder Problems and Volume Problems
d/2=r
8/2=r
4m=r
v= π.r.r.h
v=(3.14 x 4 x 4 ) x 10
v=50.25cm^2 x 10m
v=502.4 cm^3
502.4/2 = 251.2m^3
Emily's Circle Surface Area Scribe Post
-bases are circles
-diameter cuts a circle in half
-radius is half the diameter
-circumference is the perimeter of a circle
-pi is the ratio between circumference/diameter or 3.14
-circumference, pi.d=c
-radius, d/2=r
-diameter, r.2=d or c/pi=d
-area of a square, pi.r squared or pi.r.r
-make a square with the radius and multiply by pi

Candy tube A:
d/2 = r
7/2 = r
3.5 cm = r
TSA= (2 x Pi x r x r)+(2 x r x Pi x h)
TSA= (2 x 3.14 x 3.5 x 3.5)+(2 x 3.5 x 3.14 x 122)
TSA= (76.93cm2)+(2681.56cm2)
TSA= 2758cm2
The amount of plastic needed to make tube A is 2758cm2.
Candy tube B:
d/2 = r
11/2 = r
5.5 cm = r
TSA= (2 x Pi x r x r)+(2 x r x Pi x h)
TSA= (2 x 3.14 x 5.5 x 5.5)+(2 x 5.5 x 3.14 x 85)
TSA= (189.97cm2)+(2935.9cm2)
TSA= 3125.87cm2
The amount of plastic needed to make tube B is 3125.87cm2.

Meldrick's Circle Surface Area Post
7.3

a) When the radius of a cylinder is doubled, the volume of a cylinder is multiplied by 4.
EX.
v = π*r^2*h
v = 3.14*1²*1
v = 3.14*1*1
v = 3.14 cm³
v = π*r^2*h
v = 3.14*2²*1
v = 3.14*4*1
v = 12.56 cm³
b)When the height of a cylinder is doubled, the volume of the cylinder is doubled.
EX.
v = π*r^2*h
v = 3.14*1²*1
v = 3.14*1*1
v = 3.14 cm³
v = π*r^2*h
v = 3.14*1²*2
v = 3.14*1*2
v = 6.28 cm³
