Chapter 1:

Adding and Subtracting Integers

-6-(-4)= (-2)

-10+6= (-4)

6-7+2= 1

14- (-3)= 17

-3-(-7)= 4

-3-7= (-10)

Chapter 2:

Multiplying Intergers

Examples:

(+3)x(+2)= 3 groups of 2

repeated addition

2+2+2= +6

two groups of +3

(2)x (+3)=

Questions

(+2)x(+3)= +6

Sign Rules

Even- When you have an even number of negative factors the product is positive.

Odd- When you have an odd number of negative factors the product is negative

Chapter 3:

Dividing Integers

Partitive Division is when you use groups of to get to your quotient.

6/2=3

(-6)/(-2)= +3

(-6)/2= (-3)

Multiplicative Inverse is when you use multiplication to figure out your quotient.

6/(-2)=

(-2)x(-3)=6

(-3)x(-2)=6

Means 6/(-2)=(-3)

Sign Rules

In a divison question with an even amount or no negative signs the quotient will be positive.

example: 6/2=3

(-6)/(-2)=3

In a divison question with an odd number of negative signs the quotient will be negative.

example (-6)/2=3

6/(-2)= (-3)

Chapter 4

Order of Operations with Intergers

(+5)x(-3) + (-6)/(+3)=

Scince there are no square brackets or exponents we should start with division and multiplication going from left to right.

[(+5) x (-3)] +[(-6)/(+3)]=

(-15)=(-2)=

After your done with division and multiplication you should do the addition

(-15)+(-2)=(-17)

Breanna's Term 2 Reflection

In term 2, we learned about percent, surface area and volume. I did very well understanding the work that we were given and that showed greatly on my tests and quizzes by getting perfect or almost perfect. In term 2 I didnt necessarily struggle with commenting on the blog, i was just being a lazy teenager and not commenting like I should have. Next term I will make sure that I comment on all the blog posts posted for this term and try and get perfect on all of my tests and quizzes to reach the highest mark possible. We did alot of work with percentages, surface area and volume. The tax in Manitoba it 12%, 5% GST and 7% PST. You have to find out what 12% of your price is and then what ever that number is you add that onto your original price and it will come to your total. I learned that surface area is measured in square units like cm^2 or km^2. I also learned how to get the surface area by taking the shape you have apart, finding the area of the sides, then adding them all togeather to get the total surface area or "TSA". I also learned about volume, like learning how to get the volume of a cylindrical, rectanguar or trangular prism. To find the volume of a rectangular prism you have to use the formula V= LxWxH. To find ther volume of a triangular prism you use the formula V= BxH/2xH, and finally the formula for the cylinder was V= (pi.r.r)xH.

Breanna`s Pay It Forward

Part 1
A young boy named Trevor McKinney has just started his first year of the seventh grade. Troubled by his mothers alcohol addiction and his father, currently absent, abusive behavore. His teacher Mr.Simonet has just assigned a project: Think of something to change the world and put it into action. Trevor`s thinking is to pay a favor not back, but forward-- repaying good deeds to three new people. Treveor has a great impact not just on his own life and the people around him, but others completely unknown by Trevor.

Part 2

On December 17th Ana, Maya, Hazel, Colleen and Myself went to Polo Park . For the act of kindness I donated toys to a local toy drive for the christmas, sponsered by 102.3 Clear FM and handed out candy canes to the staff at Polo Park. The reason I choose to do this is becuase, I know that I can be very spoiled at times, many times, and I knew that there was kids out there, who dont have all the things I have, and sometimes dont get big extravagant presents like I do. I know that those 4 gifts that I dontated, they will make a childs christmas. The reason I decided to do the candy cane gift is because I know that the people in the stores work so hard and nice to be appreciated around the christmas holiday seeing as its the craziest time of year. We asked them to pay it forward and they were glad too.

Part 3
My act of kindness went pretty good. I felt great to give a child a present to open up on christmas. When I placed the toys onto the huge mountian, the man who worked for Clear FM ask me and my group members if we would like to enter a contest to win a trip to mexico, we told the man " No thank you, we are from Sargent Park and all we are doing is paying it forward". The man told us to follow him and he asked another employee a question. He returned to us and said " You gils will be mentioned on the radio, I like what you are doing, thank you". We replied with a simple "Your welcome, and pay it forward".

My other act of kindness, handing out cany canes was very fun and exiting. Some people rejected the candy cane and said no thank you, but some became ude to us, and were very stubborn, we ask politly if theyd like a candy cane and siad no i have no time for you anoing children. I felt a little upset about that but I realized its christmas time and people are just trying to get home from a long day. Others who said yes to the candy cane listened to the story we told them about our pay it forward project and they were glad to accept the candy cane. We meet three ladies and they all attended Sargent Park. One of the ladies said "I am happy to see there fine school doing an awsome job with there students as it always has been that way". We said "thank you, and remember, pay it forward"

Part 4
Pay it forward is important because one simple action can be the biggest. Its trying to make the world a better place, a safer community. I think my act of kindness will make a difference in someones life.

Breanna`s 3 Questions

Today in math class we got these 3 questions to do. We had to represent them on a raio table and a grid. Here is the work I did to answer them.

Question #1

A serving of ice cream contains 240 calories. One hundred fourty four come from fat. What percent of the total calories come from fat?

Here is what I did:

Simple Sentence: The amount of calories that somes from fat is 60 percent.

Question #2

You just hired a new baker to work for you. In 1 hour he burned 250 cookies. If this represented 21 percent of the days production, how many cookies had you planed on producing today?

Here is how I answered it:

Simple Sentence: The number of cookies you planned on making were 1190.

Question #3

A store that sells snowboards buys them from a manufactuerer for a wholesale price of $57. The store markup is 150 percent. What is the retail price?

Simple Sentence: The retail price is $85.50.

18. The question says if the square floor mat has a side length of 14m, what is the area of the square floor mat in square meters?

Here is my answer:

A=S2
A=142
A=14x14

The area is 196 m2.


20. This questions says that Adams uncle has instructions for building a shed, a page of the insturtions was not as clear as he thought.

a) The question asks for the area of the rectanlge. Here is what i did:

A= LxW
A= 9x4
A= 36m2

The area is 36m2.

b) Now this time is ask`s for the side length of the square, and this is what i tohught of.

I think that the answer will be 6 because when you square 6 it equals 36.

Ex. 2
6 = 36 or 6x6= 36.

22. This question ask for three questions that are connected to to the largest in Beijing that has an area of 396,900 m squared.

a) This question is asking about what the dimenstions on the square are. This is what i did.

630 m by 630 m
=630m squared = 369,000

The answer is 369,000.

b) This question asks if the dimention would be 629 m by 629 m, what would be the answer? I did this.

629 m by 629 m
= 629 squared = 395, 641.

The answer is 395,641.

c) This question is asking if the area is less than 394, 000 but greater than 386,000, what would the dimention between those numbers? I answered like this.

622 squared = 386,884
623 squared = 388,129
624 squared = 389,376
625 squared = 390 625
626 squared = 391,876
627 squared = 393,129

Those are all the whole possible dimensions that I could have.

Breanna`s Math Profile

Hi, My name is Breanna! I am a grade 8 math student. If someone were to ask me if i liked math i would say yes, because math is everywhere you look, and if you look at it from a different perspective then its really quite simple. Math, comes hard to me at first, but once i go through it a couple of times it becomes easy. The best thing in math class we did last year is learning how to skip count. That really helped me with my multiplication.

In grade 7, The best unit that we did was "the measures of central tendency" Learning how to do the mean, median, mode, range and outlier. It all came easy to me. I think the reason it came easy to me was because i had a definition of each word and an example. I think that the hardest thing to do was algebra. I think the reason it was a difficulty to me was because i would forget some of the steps and showing it in my work. This year i will practice these things in order to get better grades.

This year in math, for me to be successful i must practice and study the unit of math so i understand and do not forget steps in my work. Another thing is that i will make sure all of my assignment are on time and done properly, or the best that i can. This year in grade 8 i would like to learn a bit more about algebra and fractions.

My favorite post that i created last year was estimating and calculating homework . Blogging made me a better student because it would give me a chance to look over the work we did that day, and help my other class mates improve on their writing skills, along as my writing skills. Also if i missed that class for some reason i could copy the notes off the blog so i could keep up in math with notes and homework. This year i am looking forward to blogging about algebra and fractions so i could really focus on those to particular units.
