The steps on doing One Step Equations:

1)Solve by Inspection-

3+n=5

We now have to Isolate the variable

3+(-3)n=5-3

There is a rule you need to follow doing algebra and it is, what you

do on one side of the equation, you must do the same thing to the other side of the equation like the example shown above.

n=2

The last thing you do to solve this is to verify.

3+n=5

3+2=5

5=5

1)Using Inspection

4x+1=17

4x+1-1=17-1

4x=16

4x/4=16/4

x=4

Now you MUST verify:

4x+1=17

4(4)+1=17

17=17
