-isolate the variable

-cancel out the constant (integer)

-balance on each side of the equal sign

-then verify

One Step Equations

Adding

x+4=10

x+4-4=10-4

x=6

x+4=10

6+4=10

10=10

Subtracting

x-15=30

x-15+15=30+15

x=45

x-15=30

(45)-15=30

30=30

Two Step Equations

4x=20

4x/4=20/4

x=5

4x=20
