Final Percent Post

This chapter is about percents, fractions, and decimals.
Percent means: out of 100. Another name for percent is hundredths.

Representing Percents:
You can represent a percent using a hundred grid.
One fully colored grid shows 100%
For example is 20 squares are colored it represents 20%

Fractions, Decimals, and Percents:
Percents can be represented as a fraction or a decimal.
For example:

Percent of a number:
You can use mental math
strategies like halving, doubling, and dividing by 10.
For example: 50% of 200 is 100.

Combining Percents:
You can combine percents by adding them together to solve a problem.
For example: The cost of a shirt is 7.99. What is the total cost of the shirt including 5% GST and 7% PST.
5%+7%=12%
100%(the cost of the shirt) +12%= 112%
112% as a decimal is 1.12
7.99 x 1.12 = 8.9488
= $8.95.
