Colleen's Math Profile

Hi, my name is Colleen. I'm a grade 8 math student. If someone asked me if i like math, i would say yes. Math is one of my favorite subjects. The best thing i have done in math class would be learning how to add and subtract, because i remember when i first started to learn how to add and subtract, our class would have a game and whoever answered the question first would get a prize.

The best unit i studied last year would have to be the probability unit. I think i did well in this unit because when we first stared to learn it, i didn't know what probability was. That being said it made me want to learn what probability is and it made me want to do well in that unit. The unit i struggled in the most is algebra. This year I'm going to ask more questions about algebra and pay more attention when the teacher teaches us the process.

To become a better math student, i will pay more attention to the instructions, write more notes, ask questions, read over my notes everyday, and study more harder
. This year i would like to learn more about algebra.

My favorite post i did last year would have to be the one on "Subtracting Fractions." Blogging helped me become a better student by reminding me what we did in class that day. This year I want to do a lot more blogs than i did last year.

Hazel's Math Profile

Hello, my name is Hazel Turdanes. I am a math student in grade 8. If someone asked me "Do you like math?" I would say yes, I do like math. Math has always been one of my strongest subjects in school. For me, the best thing I ever did in math was blogging. It helped me become more organized. I liked blogging because I learned how to do new things on the computer and I helped my classmates.

Last year in grade 7 the best unit that I studied was The Order of Operations. I think I did well in this unit because it was easy, you just have to remember what BEDMAS stands for. Brackets, Exponents, Division, Multiplication, Addition, and Subtraction. The unit that made me struggle was Transformations. I had trouble with rotating the shapes and finding out the new coordinates. This year, I could ask more questions and use my notes or homework book so that I don't struggle so much.

Now that I am in grade 8, I will be more organized and I will study for all of my tests and quizzes. I will also do my homework and hand it in on time to be a successful math student. This year I want to learn more about Algebraic Equations and I also want to be prepared for grade 9.

I was a blogger last year. My favorite post that I created was the blog about Subtracting Fractions With Unlike Denominators. I liked this post because it had color, pictures, and a video. Blogging has helped me become a better student in many ways. It helped me become more organized with my notes, I learned new things, and I listened more attentively in class. This year I want to continue making scribe posts, and I also want to make videos about math.

Anna Gomez's Math Profile

First of all I am Anna Gomez and I am going to tell you about my math learnings. If someone asks me if I like math, I'd say yes. Math is my favourite subject from kindergarten to grade 6, but when I was in grade 7 I started hating math because it started to get hard for me. The best thing that i did an a math class was when we started learning about take aways or subtraction. My teacher would give us candies. She will give us 10 candies and she would let us eat 2, after we have to count how many candies were left.

When I was in grade 7 the best unit that I enjoyed most is fraction. I did well on this unit because my old school in the Philippines taught fractions when I was in grade 4. The unit that I found difficult is integers. To do well on integers, this year my goals are to ask questions and to listen to my teacher. This year, I will also focus on this unit.

I promise that this year I will do my best and study hard in everything I do. I will do what my teacher tell the class to do. Also, to learn our lessons I will do my homework everyday. I would take my time to understand and to do well on my tests. This year I would like to learn about computation of interest and calculus.

Last year when we did blog post I think "Term 3 Homework Package/Exam Study guide" was the best post I made. Blogging helped me become a better student because almost everything I need is on the blog and if I lost my notes that I need for the final exam I can just go to the blog and look at the notes that we need. This year I am looking forward to do a post about balancing equations or integers so I can learn or get to know this unit better.

Christian Andulan's Math Profile

Math Profile

Hi, my name is Christian. I am a math student in grade 8. If someone asked me "Do you like math?" I would tell them no, I don't like math. I don't like math because it makes my brain hurt, and its NOT my strongest subject at all! The best thing I have ever done in a math class blog. I liked blogging before, because I thought it was fun, and something that I could do to use up my free time!

In grade 7, the best unit I studied was Fractions, because I really like fractions. I remember talking about thirds and quarters, and turning fractions into percents. This unit made me struggle because of Equivalent Fractions, because some fractions are really big like 85/255, but is actually equivalent to one third. That is what really grinds my gears. This year I will try to listen to everything in class, and study more often.

This year is grade 8. I will try to complete my homework so that we can move on to other lessons, so my fellow peers can also learn new things, as well as I can. I will also try to complete blogs so that my friends can view lessons that they missed. I am looking forward to learning more algebra and becoming as good as Mr. Harbeck in math by the end of the year.

Last year I did blog, a favourite post of mine was an Exam Review to help get other students ready for the exam. I'm proud of this post because I had a video, pictures, and I made the blog well understandable. Blogging helped me become a better student because it helped me remember what I learned that day. This year I hope to do MORE blogs than last year.

Jasmin's Math Profile

Hi, My name is Jasmin! I am a grade 8 math student. If someone asked me if I liked math, I would say yes, because I would be able to use what i know in the future, even though math Isn't my strongest subject. The best thing I've ever done in math class would probably be..learning how to skip count! Not only was it fun, but it also helped with learning how to multiply.

In grade 7, The best unit I studied would have to be "The Measure of Central Tendency." Learning how to find the mean, median, mode and even the range and outlier was pretty easy! I think it made it easy for me because the definition that was given for each word (mean, mode etc.) was very understandable. The hardest unit I studied was algebra. It was difficult for me to understand some of the steps and actually applying it to my work to help me solve the equation, also remembering to do the order of operation (bedmas). This year, I will ask for help and work on understanding the whole process to algebra.

To be a successful math student this year, I will
ask more questions when i am having a hard time, and not understanding what i am being taught. I'll take more time to review what I've been learning. Another thing is to do all the homework that has been assigned to me and to do it on time. In grade 8, I would like to learn more about algebra, also a bit more on factors and divisibility.

My favorite post that I created last year is the Exam Review Study Guide. Blogging helped me become a better student because of the comments and suggestions that my classmates have made. They helped me how to make my posts better each time. Blogging also helps me refresh everything that I have learned in class. I'm looking forward to making videos about math on the computer, and blogging a bit more!

Katerina's Math Profile

Hey! My name is Katerina. I am a grade eight math student. If someone was to ask me if i like math i would say kind of. Why you ask? because I ain't the strongest in math. One thing that i did in math class that was super fun was in grade two and we were added and subtracting with chocolate chips and then if we got the right answer we would go to the next level, once we got to the end we were able to eat the chocolate chips.

In grade seven my best unit was Integers. I thought that adding the integers using a number line was very easy until we did it in class. Once I got practice it was a piece of yummy cake! The hardest thing for me in grade seven was algebraic equations. One thing I worked on to help me with algebraic equations was to practice in the grade seven homework book.

One thing I should work on to become a better learner is to take lots of notes and study a little more then I do now. One other thing i would like to work on is to finish homework on time and not late. I would like to learn more about is algebraic equations because it would help me out and maybe even other students in the school.

One of my best posts from last year was my " Solving one step algebra equations ". The comments I got were wonderful and very helpful for the next time I post something. Blogging helped me as a learner because of all the comments I got. Some were great and some were very helpful! Also all the posts that other classmates posted really helped me to. This year on the computer I want to be able to post more things to help me and my classmates with math because I know I am not the only one who is struggling.

Emily's Math Profile

Hi! My name is Emily. I am a grade 8 math student. If someone was to ask me if I liked math I'd say, yes math is one of my favorite subjects. Math has always been one of my stronger subjects. The best thing I've ever done in math is use the unit rods. I liked using them because they helped me get a better view and understanding of the data we were looking at and it really helped me with future math problems I had to figure out.

In grade 7, the unit I did the best in was, the fractions unit. I thought it was usually easy to convert a fraction to a decimal and percent. I also found it easy to change a fraction to its lowest terms. I was also good at changing fractions with uncommon denominators to fractions with common denominators. The subject that was the hardest for me was algebra. I found it difficult at the beginning to figure out the algebraic expression for most of the patterns we looked at. This year I have to focus more on the value of variables to understand the process easier.

To be a more successful math student this year I want to focus more on the unit we are studying and take more notes so I can study off of them for future tests and quizzes. I am hoping that these things will help me grasp the processes and meanings better. I also want to try and finish all of the pages that are assigned in the textbook and the homework book so I have more practice with the work. This year I would also like to learn more about algebra so I can get a better understanding of how to create a algebraic expression.

My favorite post that I did last year was the one on "The Effects of Outliers" because it was the best one I had posted. The comments my classmates left we very satisfying for me because they were all positive. Blogging helped me become a better math student by helping me review notes if I couldn't find the ones I had hand written in class and it also helped me understand all of the units better with the examples, links and videos that my classmates and I had posted.
